Grand Theft Auto to leave shelves

This is bullshit. I’ve never actually played the damn game, but things like this piss me off. Because some idiots decided to do something stupid now this game is being re-rated.

Read this article from cinescape.com:

GRAND THEFT AUTO: SAN ANDREAS, the bestselling videogame of 2004, will soon essentially disappear from store shelves. The game has been re-rated at “adults only,” thus, most retailers will be removing it from their stores.

“Controversy over the content arose in the past month, when it was revealed that a downloadable patch known as ‘hot coffee’ allowed players to view a sex scene in the game,” Variety and other sources reported.

Rockstar, the game’s publisher, is working on a new version of SAN ANDREAS that will be available sometime between August and October.

What a fucking waste. Its stupid, first of all on the part of the people who caused the sex scenes in the game and then on the part of the people who bitched about it. Idiots.

It should keep the original rating since the game did not ship with that code enabled to begin with. People need to download and install a 3RD PARTY patch in order to play the “hot coffee” game.

This portion of the code was not available to the ESRB reviewers at the time of review, and requires the end user to make modifications on their own. This was never advertised by Rockstar, and as of now they haven’t admitted that the code is theirs to begin with…their press release is full of spin that suggests the hot coffee game was created by someone else.

Also…it’s my understanding that the “sex scene” is actually a game…you move the control stick and that controls, uh…the character.

GTA’s target audience has been adults anyway…if kids are still buying this, their parents need to be watching them more closely. I really don’t see what the big deal is about.

Someone on Slashdot pointed out that there have been prostitutes in the GTA games for years, and that hasn’t been a problem. It’s only when you have sex with a long term girlfriend that people are up in arms about the whole thing.

I’d make a crack about Tipper Gore and the PMRC, but Hilary Clinton has already said she will “hold a press conference to discuss legislative solutions to keep inappropriate video game content out of the hands of young people”.

By the way, how is sex worse than violence in this country?

Its a case of what’s worse, sex or violence, but the fact that you can run over people, blow them up, burn them, hijack cars, cause massive damage to property isn’t what is truly being questioned showed be quiet disturbing to people. The public is never truly happy with anything, they’ll forget one side of the story while they focus on another. Its bullshit like I said from the beginning and another fact is that why do the politicians care. Hilary better watch it, because the people that she’s going to piss off over this will remember it when she runs for office.

Exactly! This is a complete publicity stunt on Hilary’s part.

You hit the nail right on the head and raised some important questions. It’s unfortunate people rarely consider the other side here…was reading a newspaper article that was thrown together about GTA and it was so full of crap because the author obviously doesn’t play video games at all, nor does he know the full story. The sad part is people likely read it, assume there’s nothing else to know about the story, form their opinion, and are suddenly entitled to flaunt their opinion.

One of my grandmother’s “old lady” friends started an argument with me about online piracy. I don’t know why people feel the need to do things like that (she doesn’t know how to use a computer but feels she’s read enough on the topic).

if you haven’t done it don’t talk about it. that’s always been my opinion on the matter. That’s why if I write something about a topic (like a strip club) I think its important to go to one just to experience it.

What about piracy did she think she could argue about?

  5. flammable says:

not sure…i doubt she’s got any experience with piracy in the first place.

i’d be up for going to a strip club, you know…for research purposes, of course. 😉

  6. socramforever says:

I’ll keep that in mind for whenever we do go. If we do shoot the second Ethan Ross (which would be version 2) I’ll be sure to call you so that you can be one of the extras in the film for the strip club scene.

hey, just because they make more money then most people do doesn’t mean that they should be punished for it.
