Jackson to Exec Produce ‘Halo’ movie

Though I’ve never played the game, I’ve heard a lot about it and this seems like a promising start to the film version of the game. Taken from videoeta.com here is the news:

Peter Jackson to exec produce ‘Halo’ movie

Newly svelte producer/director Peter Jackson and wife Fran Walsh will serve as executive producers for the movie adaptation of the popular Xbox video game Halo. Jackson’s Weta Digital Ltd. and Weta Workshop Ltd. will be handling the special effects for the assuredly FX-heavy piece.

This announcement will surely propel internet rumors that Jackson is directing the film although he’s only connected as a producer for now. The news also adds instant credibility to the project — much more than when disastrous director Uwe Boll (Alone in the Dark) was rumored to be involved.

Jackson’s King Kong is set for release on Dec. 14. Halo is anticipated for a Summer 2007 release in theaters.

Sounds promising so far.

wow…this guy thinks he’s something special. I guess seeing that no one else wants to make certain games into movies, the video game companies just decide that it would be the right thing to just sell their soul…I mean, sell their rights to their game to someone who actually wants to make their movie.

Being someone who has directed (even though it was merely a student film) I would never want to direct something like a video game film. I give Paul WS Anderson some credit, the man has done two big ones, Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil. Both weren’t all that bad. But there are very few people who can sucessfully bring an adaptation to the big screen. Peter Jackson is the only one (along with Stephen Speilberg) that can bring a book adapation to the screen and do it well. Jackson had a tough time doing his too, he had to deal with all of the fans of this book. But he did somehting no one else had ever done, he incorporated all of the fans (onthe internet) and asked them what they thought. He made them apart of the process.

This guy, Uwe Bow, is an idiot. I don’t understand how he’s still getting the rights to these games and the people are still giving him money to make them. I have a feeling that he’ll make like two more flops and never be heard from again…or maybe the gods will see to it that his next film banks huge and he becomes an A list director and gets an academy award in about five years.

Hey it happened to the guy that wrote Batman & Robin as well as Lost in Space. He won an academy award for writing A Beautiful Mind and now all he does is dramas.

    I’ve said enough. I’m on a rampage!

    Wow, wtf…that’s insane.

Well, if he’s good at drama, I guess that’s alright…better than having him ruin the Batman franchise.
