Rosh Hashanah Day 1

So, yesterday I was enjoying my Rosh Hashanah day off, I might not be Jewish, but I was celebrating the new year with some R & R (Rest and Researching for my final thesis project due at the end of Nov). I sat back and enjoyed myself (do NOT read into that statement by the way, I was simply watching tv!)and then got to some work and went to class. Today, I don’t know what will happen, I’ll update that later with Rosh Hashanah Day 2! Next week on Thursday is Yom Kippur and I will have that day off too.

Score!

So I am so jealous that you get the day(s) off. I am Jewish and I am stuck here at school. Partly because I have class until 11:45 at night and then the next day at 9:55 so it makes no sense to go home since I cant go to temple or eat the good food. But it seems everyone that is Jewish did go home (and this year there at like 6 people on my floor that are Jewish!) And it just makes me very sad, knowing that I do not get to celebrate this holiday with my family. In fact, for the passed three years I have not been able to. And I think that it super sucks. I mean I am not all religious, and my family drives me crazy, and synagoge sucks, but just the fact that I have done it all of my life, and it is something meaningful upsets me that nobody at this school really acknowledges it is rediculous. So here I am – on themost high holy days of my religion doing school work, work work, homework, studying, and yes even RA crap. Hopefully you and all those others who get the day off – really do enjoy it, for my sake at least!

    Happy Rosh Hashanah!

Stacy? I’m assuming that this is you. I’m sorry that you haven’t been able to go home to celebrate these holidays. My post was not meant to upset you in anyway. It does suck that FDU decides that it needs to have an extended winter break (mind you it is simply because they have a winter session and they need (or shall I say want) the extra money that they can get and therefore days like Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur along with Columbus Day and up until recently Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Days that many other schools have off or at least celebrate are not even looked at.

It does suck and I feel really bad.

    I hope all is well.

Oh man…yeah, FDU sucks a lot of the time. Sorry.

My family is Jewish, my little sister goes to Catholic school…she was thrilled to get yesterday off, even if she found it boring to go to services too. Heh.

  4. socramforever says:

you’re Jewish? I didn’t know that…but wait why did your little sister who goes to Catholic School get off on a Jewish holiday? That doesn’t make sense to me…and if that is the case, then FDU is really fucked up because if a catholic School allows for days off for a Jewish holiday and they don’t, that’s just messed up!

  5. flammable says:

    Hahahaha!

Nah…she got to take a day off from school. Her peers still had class. Since it’s high school, it doesn’t matter so much that she missed class.

I’m not Jewish…but I was raised that way.

My sister goes to Catholic school because it’s either that or public school, and the public school here sucks. Badly.

hey -yea its me as you know. but dont be sorry you didnt upset me. i was just complaining – it was something fun to do for thenight – you know how it goes πŸ˜€ i hope you enjoy your time off though!

ohh! that’s right, you don’t believe in god…and there is nothing wrong with that. But you were raised Jewish. Livingston, the town I lived in for twelve years (and the town my parents live in) is primarly Jewish, so I know a lot of things…did you get a Bar Mitzba (sp?

My parents sent me to a Christian academy when I was little, till I was in 5th grade…not because they were overly religious, but it was better than the schools that were near by.

  8. flammable says:

Nope, no Bar Mitzvah for me. I found Hebrew School boring, so I didn’t go. My brothers and sister did all of that, though.

My parents are both pretty religious, but it doesn’t seem to bother them so much. They kinda support me, I guess. Or at least don’t attempt to talk to me about religion.

    Grandma, on the other hand…heh.

I was listening to David Cross last night…I like the way he explains Atheism. When he was a kid, he’d be sitting in synagogue and the Rabbi would be reading from the Torah…and he looks at all of these adults and is like, “You believe this bullshit? This is all fiction!” He also compares The Bible to Dungeons and Dragons. It’s really funny, I like it. πŸ˜€

    interesting…who’s David Cross though?

I have a tough time with those people who walk around with the Bible and say, “this is the word of God”. No its not, its the word of man. Besides, the Bible has been around for centuries, and has been played with and molested for a good chunk of it. Also, there are many books that are not in the Bible. I mean, the Bible itself was not even a book until the Church put it togehter but they’ve found so many other books that they’ve chosen not to put in it, espcially from the new testament that speaks of Jesus Christ in a different light then what is said in the Bible.

You want proof of history, read history, do not read the Bible and consider it the true dipiction of what happened over 2000 years ago, old or new testament.

Sorry, I go off on things like this. I believe in God, but I don’t like the whole Bible is the ultimate book. There are even moments when I’m not exactly sure if there is a God…but I don’t know, I’m somewhere in the middle. I still go to Church every now and then, and I like Christmas and Easter…does that make sense?

  10. flammable says:

    LOL, well understood.

David Cross is a comedian, he was half of Mr. Show too (need to see more of that).

I like Christmas and Easter too, candy and presents rock.

Peeps rule! Ever put them in the microwave?

They’re actually starting to make them for every holiday now, which sucks because they were something you looked forward too, now you can have it all the time.

Yom Kipper sucks! I was upset that i was missing rosh hashana but im not going to lie, even if i could go home for yom kipper I WOULDNT. its the worst holiday. i know its the most holy and all, but i really dont see the point in you were bad you must repent and starve yourself for the day. perhaps this is because up until this day i still cannot go without eating for the entire day, or i will faint – but none the less i still super do not agree with it. i think that it is in the same parellel of if you dont go to church you will go to hell. and jews make fun of christians for thinking that way. so i dont get it!

    stacey

  13. anonymous says:

By The Way…to all you jews/people getting off today/those who just kind of celebrate blah blah blah HAPPY YOM KIPPER!! repent you bastards!

  14. socramforever says:

I don’t go to church all that much. Most christians that I know really don’t go to church…I go there every now and then, but I think the last time I was there was Easter. LOL. That was last spring. I think people who think this way need to get a reality check. God understands why you’re not in church, He wasn’t there either!

  15. flammable says:

Oh man…I love peeps. Haven’t put them in the microwave, but there’s something about devouring a yellow bunny rabbit whole that makes it Easter for me.
