George Lucas on a Fifth Indiana Jones

Oh great, here we go again on me posting these rumors up. I remember about a year or two ago posting that I was no longer going to post anything up about the forth Indy movie because it was never going to happen and then a week later being forced to take back my comments because they had green-lit the forth one.

Anyway, I love how history repeats itself sometimes.

With Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull having earned a massive $743.7 million worldwide (#27 on the all-time worldwide list), The Sunday Times asked George Lucas if he, Steven Spielberg and Harrison Ford would be up for a fifth film:

“We were hoping for box-office figures like that, which is, ultimately, with inflation, what the others have done, within 10%,” Lucas explains. “So, we squeaked up there. Really, though, it was a challenge getting the story together and getting everybody to agree on it. Indiana Jones only becomes complicated when you have another two people saying ‘I want it this way’ and ‘I want it that way’, whereas, when I first did Jones, I just said, ‘We’ll do it this way’ — and that was much easier. But now I have to accommodate everybody, because they are all big, successful guys, too, so it’s a little hard on a practical level.

“If I can come up with another idea that they like, we’ll do another. Really, with the last one, Steven wasn’t that enthusiastic. I was trying to persuade him. But now Steve is more amenable to doing another one. Yet we still have the issues about the direction we’d like to take. I’m in the future; Steven’s in the past. He’s trying to drag it back to the way they were, I’m trying to push it to a whole different place. So, still we have a sort of tension. This recent one came out of that. It’s kind of a hybrid of our own two ideas, so we’ll see where we are able to take the next one.”

One suggestion? A shorter title!

I for one didn’t write that last line, that was in the article. LOL! Just in case Mr. Lucas is reading. Love your work!

This article is from another interview called: “George Lucas: Mr. Empreror Strikes Back” from The Sunday Times. You can view the whole thing at this link: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article4386319.ece

Lucas should listen to Spielberg – chances are, if George Lucas has a “great idea” about the direction to take something, he should ask other people before plowing forward with it.

I guess he honestly thinks that it work all those years ago, it’ll work now and that’s not always the case.

I understand he likes to pay homage to the things he saw while growing up, the old serials, the news reels, the influx of sci-fi during the 50’s, that sort of thing. But not everyone feels the same way and there are probably a hundred different ways to do it better.

A lot of people hated the title to the second movie “Attack of the Clones” but I got it. I mean, think about the title The Empire Strikes Back. Its kind of cheesy, but because its such a great movie people neglect the fact that its cheesy. Attack of the Clones was supposed to be in the same vane as Empire was. Sadly, the Clones never really attacked but more helped then anything else.

Yeah, I never understood that. Who were the clones? The robots?

I grew up reading the Lucas-approved Star Wars books, and in those, the clones were actual human clones of Jedis (but evil).
