Scribe signed for Total Recall

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009

I find this one of the most unnecessary of all of the remakes currently in the process of being produced.  I love Total Recall, I think its one of the best sci-fi movies I’ve ever seen. I mean,  I know its cheesy, but it was such a great movie and one of the best that Arnold Schwarzenegger ever made (second to probably Terminator 2: Judgement Day). So, when I first heard about someone wanting to remake the movie (in February, I posted this blog: Remaking Total Recall) I was pissed. I’m still pissed! I mean, how dare they.

I add this to all of the remakes that people seem to have a boner about recently, along with a remake of Cliffhanger. I don’t remember ever liking Cliffhanger that much, but its a movie that clearly does not need to have a remake made.

I didn’t post anything else since, I was kind of hoping that they would stop thinking about remaking this and just leave well enough alone.

If a remake to Psycho didn’t teach us about twelve years ago, classic movies should just simply be left alone.

Total Recall writer tapped

Author: Clint Morris    Date: Tuesday, June 2nd, 2009 Time: 8:22 pm

Kurt Wimmer (“Salt”, “Equilibrium”) has been tapped to write the “Total Recall” remake.

“Total Recall” was resurrected for remake earlier this year by Columbia and producer Neal Moritz (“Fast and the Furious”) and his Original Films banner. Pic will be a contemporized adaptation of the science fiction saga based on the Philip K. Dick story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale.” Knowing how much of a woody Moritz has for Vin Diesel, I’d say there’s a good chance Doug Quaid may be a bald New Yorker this time ’round.

I enjoyed Wimmer’s script for “Salt” (which my bud Phil Noyce is directing), and can appreciate the extensive rewrite he had to do on it once the lead character was switched from male to female, but I still don’t think a remake of Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 hit is necessary – not when the current “Total Recall” still holds up as well as a well-built bookshel, do you?

Eminem in on Bruno prank

I heard the rumor, but imdb.com had the scoop:

Eminem And Baron Cohen Rehearsed Awards Show Stunt

2 June 2009 12:10 PM, PDT

Audience members and TV viewers were left stunned when Baron Cohen, in character as gay fashionista Bruno and dressed as a giant dove, fell from the roof of the Universal Ampitheater onto Eminem’s lap.

The Slim Shady star was heard angrily protesting before storming out of the show, accompanied by his entourage.

Sacha Baron Cohen and Eminem scripted and rehearsed the outrageous stunt at Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards that left the rapper’s face buried in the funnyman’s crotch.

The incident provoked furious debate about whether the incident was staged or planned behind Eminem’s back.

On Monday, Paris Hilton insisted Eminem knew nothing about it and his response was real – but now MTV’s head writer has come forward to confess the star was in on it all along.

Scott Aukerman writes on his blog, “Yes, the Eminem-Bruno incident was staged. They rehearsed it at dress (rehearsal) and yes, it went as far as it did on the live show.”
