‘Total Recall’ remake to skip Mars?

Cos

Not only am I still against ‘Total Recall’ being remade, but I’m really against them skipping Mars! Going to Mars played such a big part in the first movie, I mean I still say “Blue sky on Mars?” whenever the clouds part after a long rain and we see blue sky. Or “Get your ass to Mars” or “Open your mind Quaid…” I love Total Recall and it hurts to think that they want to make something better that didn’t need to be made any better.

"Total Recall" Remake Skipping Mars

Producer Neal Moritz tells Collider that not only is Colin Farrell set to play Douglas Quaid in the “Total Recall” remake at Sony Pictures, but don’t expect much similarity with Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 original.

According to Moritz, the plan is to stick closer to Philip K. Dick’s short story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” than the previous films. This means we won’t see Mars – “It’s closer to the book, the big difference is we don’t go to space. Instead of it being a spaceship that takes us to another planet, there’s something that takes us from one side of the planet to another that’s really interesting.”

Part of the plan is to hem closer to our current world – “It’s a real world, a real future world, where the cities have just gotten so overcrowded that the cities are just built up, up, up, up. We’re playing it like a real world, but there are all these technological advancements” says Moritz.

Finally he confirmed the film will be sticking to 2D – “We’re not gonna do Recall in 3D. We decided that it would be too much”. Shooting kicks off in May.
