Lois Lane not in Superman?

Cos

Hmm…odd rumor here. I don’t know if it is true yet or not, I’m sure we’ll learn more soon enough. Apparently, Lois Lane will not be in the next Superman movie, which throws that whole rumor that I posted earlier this week in the  Shortlist for Lois Lane post into the garbage. Don’t know what they are planning on doing, but I’ll hold my opinion until I learn more.

No Lois Lane In The New “Superman”

No Lois Lane In The New "Superman"

So much for all those Lois Lane rumors this week, turns out Warner Bros. Pictures is trying something altogether different.

German actress Diane Kruger (“Inglourious Basterds,” “National Treasure”) along with Brits Alice Eve (“She’s Out of My League”), and Rosamund Pike (“Die Another Day,” “An Education”) have now emerged as the three actresses in contention for the female lead character in the upcoming “Superman” reboot reports Variety.

The big twist? While the character’s identity hasn’t been disclosed, it has been confirmed that it will NOT be Lois Lane. The studio apparently doesn’t want a name that could overshadow leading man Henry Cavill, so all the talk of Rachel McAdams and Kristen Stewart as Lois is now rendered null and void.

The studio is also in search of its villain, but no names have been locked and which character to be used (ie. Lex Luthor, General Zod, Brainiac, Darkseid, Parasite, etc.) will be used. Zack Snyder directs from a script by David Goyer with Christopher Nolan producing. Filming kicks off this Summer.

I wonder if it’ll be just the origin story – Lana Lang, Clark Kent, Kansas, etc.

Clark Kent doesn’t move to Metropolis immediately, so there’s plenty to fit into a first movie. If this fits the same realistic tone as Batman Begins, I could see them doing a lot with the origin story (unsure how I feel about Zack Snyder directing).

As far as I’ve heard, they are skipping the “origin” portion of it. They feel as if it has been done to death on Superman and they want to get to the action, or meat of the story. I’m not a fan of Zack Snyder. I think all of his stuff, though they deem it to be visionary, just seems to be bringing comics to the big screen. I tend to think that the Chris Nolan view of the world with Batman is the best way to see comics on the big screen, making them realistic. Just my opinion.

Agreed. I like the way he’s doing it.

Everyone knows the origin of Superman, anyway – skipping directly to the best part of the story sounds like a good plan!

Zack Snyder…I think he did a great job with 300. I wasn’t thrilled with Watchmen being made into a movie, but I feel that he did the best he could to maintain its integrity (some of the scripts they threw at him were truly terrible). I’m not a fan of horror, but I saw Dawn of the Dead in the theater and enjoyed it.

The slow-mo thing was cool in 300, but I think he should give it up. It’s not original anymore. Either radically change it, or do something else. It’s like how everyone used bullet time after The Matrix, it wasn’t interesting after a certain point.

Couldn’t agree with you more on that slow motion thing. Once it has been duplicated, repeated, and spoofed in other movies and/or TV shows, not including your own products; I think it’s time to move away from that. I don’t think Superman is the place to do that. I think their best bet is to follow the Batman format and keep it based in reality. I think it is time for Zack Synder to show that he isn’t just that one style type of guy, because if this thing sucks, I doubt he’ll be that hot in Hollywood anymore.
