Seeing that this Blog is “Where the Rabbit is King” and seeing that I am a self proclaimed rabbit enthusiastic, and seeing how every now and then I post a picture of my buns of fun (not only that, but have you noticed that Peanut is my avatar for my posting) it would be without questions that when I saw this link about how some recently found ancient rabbits on an island making them the biggest rabbits ever found. They weighed in at 26 pounds, not huge, but comparing Peanut’s tiny weight of 5 pounds, these guys had about 21 pounds on him. They also did not hop or have any form of enemies.

Just so we’re clear, if you didn’t know, rabbits are not rodents, they are of the order of Lagomorpha and are more related to Deer then to any mouse or hamster.

An enormous bunny that lived three to five million years ago was so hefty — six times the size of most rabbits today — that it didn’t hop and had no enemies.

The new species, dubbed the Minorcan King of the Rabbits (Nuralagus rex), weighed in at over 26.4 pounds and lived on the small island of Minorca.
