Where did this week go? Woke up yesterday to Melissa reminding me that it was trash day, I was honestly dumbfounded on how it could possibly be Thursday…now it is Friday and I feel like this was a huge week in news and rumors.

My one this is that it is so damn cold outside! Any,  here we go!

Week of September 12th–16th, 2011

This past weekend word came out of the passing of two actors; first Oscar winner and Spider-Man co-star Cliff Robertson who played Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben in all three of the Sam Rami’s Spider-Man movies. The second was Spartacus actor Andy Whitfield who was in the first season of the hit Starz series, only to have to drop out of the second season (which forced Starz to make the second season a prequel season and it wasn’t a bad season, I thoroughly enjoyed it) when he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He left for treatment and was set to return, but was forced to leave when it reoccurred. He passed away this past weekend at the age of 39…

Sex and the City seems to be returning to the TV screens with news that the television network The CW has picked up “The Carrie Diaries” which is based on Sex and the City’s author Candace Bushnell’s book about Carrie Bradshaw’s high school years. No word as to what capacity, if any, would original series star Sarah Jessica Parker and series head Darren Star would have in this series…

Highlander reboot seems to have found a new director in Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo who directed the zombie sequel “28 Weeks Later”. Highlander originally had Fast Five director Justin Lin attached, but he dropped out a few months ago to direct the next Fast movie. Still not excited about this, but I’ll keep my eyes out for any trailer…

Top Gun seems to be getting the 3D treatment, pending the approval of film’s director Tony Scott. I guess the silver lining in this is that at least they aren’t rebooting it…

Hannibal Lecter seems to be returning to the small screens with a television series based on early events that were alluded to in the Thomas Harris novel Red Dragon. I have no problem with this as long as it is done similarly to the Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which was a very well put together and extremely well written series that should have been given a 3rd season (yes I’m still bitter about it) that not only used the original two film’s continuity but also added their own mythology. I feel like it is an attempt to make a show to compete with the likes of Dexter. Which is a fantastic show and I can’t wait for its premiere next month. Also, I said it last year during season 5 of Dexter, but I would love a Hannibal like serial killer to be brought into the Dexter series for him to feud with…

Taking a brief moment away from film and television news, the band No Doubt, which reformed back in 2009 had had hopes of getting their sixth studio album out by Christmas of this year has officially stated that they have to continue working on it and that it should be out next year. I think No Doubt’s 1995 album “Tragic Kingdom” which I owned (it’s probably here somewhere) was their best. I didn’t care much for their pop-esque follow ups in 2000 and 2001. Here’s hoping that they produce something more in line with what made them stand out back in the mid-90’s, if there is even still a market for that type of stuff (or am I the only one that still listens to 90’s music on Sirius?)…

Point Break, the 1991 hit thriller starring Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, is apparently in full fledge reboot mode. A few years ago it was rumored to have been happening and now, among a slew of an online outcry about the new movie, it seems to be moving ahead. Instead of surfing and sky diving, this film will updated and taking place within the world of extreme sports, ala skateboarding and BMX biking. I’ve only ever seen the ending to the first movie so I really have no attachments to this movie, but I completely understand the outcry, Total Recall anyone?…

Stephen Spielberg and Harrison Ford attended a 30th Anniversary “Raiders of the Lost Ark” viewing and were asked about an Indy V movie. Both Spielberg and Ford said they would be willing to come back for a fifth movie, but Ford clearly stated that he “ain’t gonna go to Mars” meaning he would not want any more aliens in an Indy movie. When “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” came out in 2008 there was some word that Spielberg was not completely happy with the story but did the movie for the fans. Also, during this viewing, a question came up about Blu-ray versions of the Indy movies and he said that they’ll be coming out eventually but that his 1982 “E.T.” will probably hit Blu-ray first. He also said that he was disappointed with the 2002 updates that went out on DVD and would not be doing any more tweaking with any of his movies. Is it just me or are Spielberg and George Lucas having issues with their views of movies?…

Expendables 2 seems to be in the news every day. At this point I’m not entirely sure who is or isn’t in the damn movie. But if rumors are true this is going to be one of the biggest and most bad ass action movies of all time. This is like when Marvel fought DC! Only so much better. Word is that not only is Sly Stallone in the movie (obviously), Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenger both with expanded roles (which was mentioned last week) but Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Dam are set to be in the sequel. Also, word is coming around that Nic Cage and John Travolta are being considered for some roles. I’ll wait until the official announcement of the cast before I get really excited…

J.J. Abrams has finally signed the deal to direct “Star Trek 2”, I for one am excited about this. I like his movies for the most part. Super 8 was a slightly bit disappointing but only because I thought it went way too long. The film will begin shooting shortly, as the script is in its final stages and should be out either December of 2012 or early summer of 2013…

Source Code, the time travel movie that came out earlier this year starring Jake Gyllenhaal seems to be being adapted into a television series. We recently watched Source Code and I have to say I’d add it to my growing list of movies that had a great concept but just didn’t deliver. I’ll wait to see if it ever does come out on tv…
