American Idol

Week #3 & 4

February 8th-9th and 15th-16th,   2012

I decided not to talk about individual contestants anymore—until the Top 40, 36, etc are revealed. Things change so quickly…

Hollywood ‘Week.’ Always the toughest rounds in the audition process. It all started with 309 contestants who made it to Hollywood. The contestants immediately had to get into groups and sing without music. Half were sent home.

The next round saw the contestants split into groups of 4 or 5 and have to choreograph and sing in harmony, while showcasing their talent. At this point, many of their true colors were showing. The pettiness, gossiping, and rudeness overshadowed their true talent and confidence. The Idol “bug” claimed many contestants, but it didn’t seem to harm their voices. Like true professionals, they went on and many made it through to the next rounds.

This week, the contestants who made it through were sent to Las Vegas, my favorite place, and were once again asked to work in small groups of 3 or 4. I think Thursday night’s IDOL was the best ever. The talent and self-reliance helped the contestants to sing 50’s songs and make them relevant; while dressing the part and working together. IDOL at its best to date this season!

Next week, America’s top 36 or 40 will be revealed, making way for the live shows. Seeing this week’s shows, I cannot wait to see how much the contestants have grown and what performances they have in store for us.

Nothing new with Randy, Jennifer, and Steven…I think we’ll see how much they’ve grown as judges and as a team as the live shows premier in two weeks.

I’ve heard this saying before and it’s true: “True talent is incredibly hard to find, but really easy to identify.” For some of the contestants, I see true talent.

One thing’s for sure, IDOL is back. With “The Voice” and “X Factor,” I still believe the original, IDOL, is the best.
