Blastr reported last night that Paramount studios has delayed the release of ‘GI Joe: Retaliation’ from June 29 until March 29 of next year. The move is rather shocking as not only has Paramount been pumping the marketing of the action film all year, but Hasbro has also been throwing toys into stores for some time now.

The word going around is that Paramount wants to convert the movie into 3D, as ‘Avengers’ has been doing gangbusters all month now and it didn’t want to miss out on the potential to make more money. Also, with how badly Universal’s ‘Battleship’ (another Hasbro property) has done stateside and how ‘Avengers’ keeps killing everything in its path, perhaps the move will allow for less competition.

Some are also speculating that the move will allow for some re-shoots. But with only five weeks before its intended release into theaters, the move to delay the film continues to raise a few eyebrows.
