I’ve read articles about the reject designs of many buildings and structures. If you ever get a chance to look up the rejected plans for the Washington Monument you’ll be really surprised to see that they honestly pick the most plain and basic design.

I didn’t really know too much about the Lincoln Memorial prior to today while reading this article from History. I didn’t realize how old the memorial is and how many different designs there had been for it. Some of the other designs were amazing, Egyptian and Mayan pyramids. All of which were scrapped. But the architect that designed the beautiful designs for the Lincoln Memorial, John Russell Pope, went on to design some other notable buildings, structures and monuments,  National Archives Building, Constitution Hall, National Gallery of Art and The Jefferson Memorial.
