I was fairly certain after 10 years of having a blog that I would have had at least one article about the difference between Rabbits and Hares…I searched but could not find one. I guess I never did. Needless to say I figured this would be a shoe-in of a post.

Rabbits and Hares are not the same animals, though they share a ton of similarities.

I mean, just looking at the two species you can figure something is different. Rabbits tend to be more social, shorter eared, cuter, loving. Hares look more like they have a more muscular body type with longer legs and ears. Just to name a few.

It is good to see that there is an article that at least attempts to quell the misunderstanding that these are the same animal. As the article explains:

Hares and rabbits are in the same family, Leporidae, but they’re “different species, like sheep and goats are different species,” Steven Lukefahr, a geneticist at Texas A&M University in Kingsville, said via email.

And that’s not the only difference, check out the article to read and educate yourself on Rabbits and Hares: National Geographic
