AMC tiered seating

When I posted the Best Friends For Life post the other day it was in the hopes to start posting more regularly. Something small. Anything.

My thought was to post the last day of 2017 and the first of 2018.

Clearly that did not happen.

Anyway, I want to briefly talk about something that may be old news but I still wanted to comment about it.

It was reported late last week that AMC had a survey out about seating prices. In this survey it questioned if people not only had a preference to where in the theater they would sit but we’re willing to pay more.

Essentially tiered seating prices.

Now, I’m finally getting around to picking my seats at a movie. A practice that isn’t that bad, to be quite honest. It just takes a bit of getting used to.

I’ve heard that picking seats in a theater is something that can be found around the world. Just like going to a concert or play.

I think it works best when there is film (Star Wars: The Last Jedi for example) and if I was sold a ticket and had to sit in the front row, I would have been pissed. But we were able to pick our seats and they were decent.

Leather recliner seats are great, I’ve seen at least a few movies in these theaters. Ordering food in a theater is great. The food itself is mediocre but it’s a fun experience.

However, I have a lot of issues with the idea of tiered seating. It feels disrespectful to the movie going public. I understand that movie theater chains trying to come up with new ways of making money. But this would be a huge slap in the face.

I don’t really go to see too many movies right now. No complaints. There really aren’t too many reasons to leave the house. A Star Wars or Marvel movie or some other major event film. But there aren’t too many movies that I need to go see in the theater.

Not sure what other gimmick a theater chain could throw at us. But tiered seating would cause me to scale back my viewing even more. As it stands right now I essentially wait until I notice something is in HBO or Showtime. Don’t remember the last time getting something onDemand. Like I said, there isn’t much that gets me out of the house.

My 1 recommendation wouldn’t be to the movie theater chains but to the movie studios: start making better movies. Something that I need to go see.

When I have better quality entertainment at home (Netflix, HBO, Showtime, Hulu, ECT.) there aren’t many reasons to leave….
