image Maria Bello (“A History of Violence,” Coyote Ugly”) will replace Rachel Weisz in the third installment of Universal Pictures “The Mummy” reports Variety.

Bello will takeover Weisz’ role of Evelyn Carnahan O’Connell. Brendan Fraser, Luke Ford, Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh are already set to star in the Rob Cohen-directed film.

Scripted by “Smallville” creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, the film brings the O’Connells and their full-grown son (Ford) to the forbidden tombs of China and the Himalayas, where they battle a shape-shifting mummy, a former Chinese emperor (Li) cursed by a wizard (Yeoh).

Maria Bello can actually act and I’m not afraid of her taking over Rachel Weisz part. She is a surprise replacement because they are replacing an amazing actress with another amazing actress. What’s going on here? Finaly a step in the right direction for Mummy 3!

It’s always strange when someone takes over another person’s role, though. It’s even awkward with Bond, but at least we’re always expecting it.

Bond and Batman seem to have the most people play them. What else has had multiple actors playing them (other than an obvious one like Sherlock Holmes)?

Hmm. There aren’t that many of them, are there? I can’t think of any others, off the top of my head.
