Ok, so after a brief discussion Melissa and I both concluded that the sound is from an owl.

A few hours later and I was about to let Cassie and Chloe out and I came across this guy on our fence.

I called Melissa to see and shortly after she and the kids came to the room this guy took off:

This guy flew up into a tree and I took this video of it:

The owl took off and Melissa went to investigate and found that we had two of them:

We all went out to investigate:

According to Google Lens, (which on Google Photos is an option for every picture, allows you to search for anything you see in your pictures) the owl is either a Barred Owl or Northern Spotted Owl.

Great little (non) mystery solved!
