The Mother Brain Files Underrated Actors Special: Ed Harris

When we talk about character actors, we often think of Sean Penn, Johnny Depp, Gary Oldman, Robert Downey, Jr., etc. They have a way of molding into their characters so well, you can believe that the figure of fiction they are playing is real. Ed Harris, on the other hand, was an actor I never put into that character actor category until recently. I used to believe he was separated at birth from Peter Weller because they had the same steel blue eyes and sharp jawlines. He could have been a great replacement for Robocop after Weller quit the role. Now when I think about Harris’ body of work, it’s much more diverse than I realized.

The Mother Brain Files Underrated Actors Special: Ernie Hudson

I have written about my love for almost all things Ghostbusters on countless occasions for the blog. It still remains one of my all-time favorite movies ever and not one single character is forgettable in it. Yet, when the original was released in the summer of 1984, one actor was left off the poster and most advertisements: Ernie Hudson. As the actor best known for the role of Winston Zeddemore in Ghostbusters 1 and 2, Hudson has had the most prolific career of all the cast. It wasn’t because of the franchise’s success. It was all about paying bills.

‘The Dinner’ Production Diary

As I write this piece, I am currently in the editing phase of my latest short film, THE DINNER, a co-director collaboration between myself and my former Emerson College classmate, Anna Snead. This is the third project I produced this year following my ambitious Florida shoot for CIVIL WRATH: THE CONFEDERATE and my long-delayed short comedy TEMPTED. As one can imagine, each project can be draining to do, especially when the short gaps between productions are tight. Despite the exhausting process, I always try to remind myself that this job is all I have ever dreamed of doing.
