Competition is best for business. At least that’s what I had been taught in school. When one company oversaturates the marketplace with a singular product, it becomes the equivalent of an oversized cow ready to explode. That’s what WWE seems to feel like these last few years as its roster as well as its global presence has expanded thanks to the PG rating. Yet, TNA, the one rival organization that should be standing toe to toe with Vince McMahon, can’t seem to measure up on a variety of levels.
When I saw the remake/reboot of Shaft in 2000, I admired the all-star cast of Samuel L. Jackson, Vanessa Williams, Busta Rhymes, and Christian Bale just to name a few. But the real breakout star of the movie was this actor I knew nothing about named Jeffrey Wright who was playing this Scarface-esque drug dealer and his scenes had far more impact than the majority of the film. Four years later, I saw him speak at the American Black Film Festival where he was interviewed by Elvis Mitchell. Unlike the part he played in Shaft, I found Jeffrey Wright to be articulate and fascinating to listen to as he discussed his craft and his passion for creating memorable characters.
While Breaking Bad’s series finale was recently able to live up to the hype that manifested every social media outlet, another iconic show ended with a far more polarizing reaction. The speculation of how Dexter would end was rampant for years. Would everybody’s favorite blood splatter analyst serial killer pay the price for his crimes or run off to the sunset? The end result felt like a compromise between the two scenarios and the more I think about it, the more I begin to appreciate it.
Nearly 20 years ago, there was a movie adaptation of the classic arcade game, Street Fighter. Fans of the game were initially excited to see their favorite characters in the flesh on the big screen until open day when they realized how terrible it was. Not only was it sad because it failed to live up to the hype but it was also the final motion picture of one of the finest Hispanic actors of the time: Raul Julia.
Due to work-related matters, I have had very little time as of late to tape new movie reviews for the Cos’ Blog YouTube page. I’ve been trying my best to avoid the same old sequels I’ve been reviewing for the last few months. It made me realize how much the marketplace is so over-saturated and how we’re seeing more box office disasters than normal. I’ll get you up to speed with some quickie reviews of three films I’ve seen in recent weeks.
Since the massive success of the previous summer blockbuster, Marvel’s The Avengers, DC Comics and their parent company have been extremely desperate to compete at the box office. It’s no secret that they want a Justice League movie produced because it would be a major event movie featuring all the household names of the DC Universe: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, and Martian Manhunter. Unfortunately, the more missteps that Warner Bros. makes, the better off that this movie should not happen.

Despite his work in X-Men as well as hits like The Notebook, Enchanted, and Hairspray, Marsden always seems to be looked over by the critics. Yet, I see an actor with a wide range of talents that we as an audience tend to take for granted.
