Wii 2 announced?

I heard rumors about this a few weeks ago and apparently Nintendo announced it over the weekend. A new Nintendo console is coming out in 2012 (according to the article it will be uncontested by Sony or Microsoft until about 2014), the name of the new console wasn’t actually announced, but rumors are flying around.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

In a rare Easter weekend move, Nintendo actually addressed those Wii 2 rumors and whaddya know, they actually confirmed them! In a written statement released late last night, Nintendo said the following:

“Nintendo Co. Ltd. has decided to launch in 2012 a system in to succeed Wii…We will show a playable model of the new system and announce more specifications at the E3 Expo, which will be held from June 7-9, 2011, in Los Angeles.”

The new system, currently code-named “Project Cafe,” is expected to be the most powerful console on the market when it’s released and will remain that way for at least two years, as neither Microsoft nor Playstation will be upgrading their consoles until 2014.

I just hope that they allow the graphics to be equal to that of the X-Box 360 and the PS3 because simply owning the Wii, the graphics aren’t as good as the higher powered consoles.
