Superman Returns

Yes, they have finally gone ahead and started making this fucking movie. FINALLY! I remember back in 1996 when Tim Burton was attached to direct this with Nic Cage to star in it. God damn have they come a long way! I think they have had at least six directors attached to this thing. Here is the first look at what Superman will look like in the new film.

I’m not that impressed with it, but you can be the judge yourself:

I just think it looks more like that 1930’s cartoon serial that I saw once or twice.

Anyway, here is the story along with cast and crew, found on http://www.comingsoon.net:

Following a mysterious absence of several years, the Man of Steel comes back to Earth in the epic action-adventure Superman Returns, a soaring new chapter in the saga of one of the world’s most beloved superheroes. While an old enemy plots to render him powerless once and for all, Superman faces the heartbreaking realization that the woman he loves, Lois Lane, has moved on with her life. Or has she? Superman’s bittersweet return challenges him to bridge the distance between them while finding a place in a society that has learned to survive without him. In an attempt to protect the world he loves from cataclysmic destruction, Superman embarks on an epic journey of redemption that takes him from the depths of the ocean to the far reaches of outer space.

Directed by Bryan Singer (X2: X-Men United, X-Men, The Usual Suspects), Superman Returns stars Brandon Routh, Kate Bosworth (Beyond the Sea, Blue Crush), James Marsden (X2: X-Men United, The Notebook), Frank Langella (HBO’s Unscripted), Academy Award-winner Eva Marie Saint (North By Northwest), Parker Posey (Best in Show), Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle), Sam Huntington (Detroit Rock City) and Oscar-winner Kevin Spacey (Beyond the Sea, American Beauty, The Usual Suspects).

Superman Returns will be released on June 30, 2006 by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Let’s hope that Bryan Singer can deliver just like he did with X-men and X2: X-men United as well as Brandon Routh (whoever the fuck he is) hopefully he’ll be a good Superman.

I guess we’ll have to wait till next year to see if it is. Until then, we’ll have to deal with Batman Begins.

Superfriends…ah! That would be a dream of a movie. I think there were four animals right? A horse, dog, monkey and I forgot what the last one was.

Good point. Though, it would be unfortunate if they used Lex Luthor again, I’d like to see some special effects.

It would have actually been nice if this wasn’t just a continuation from the other series. I would have actually liked to have seen an entire new movie.

I’m sure we’ll see a lot of special effects come from this film

  4. flammable says:

Good point. A new movie would be better, especially since people will undoubtedly compare this new guy to Christopher Reeve.

  5. socramforever says:

Exactly. Although, I never did compare Dean Caine to Christopher Reeves. I thought Lois and Clark was a great show, I don’t know why. Now I think its kind of cheesy, but when it was on tv it was really good.

god help us with the wonder twins…

I remember seeing an old comic with four animals all flying with capes on and one of them was a horse…bizzare I know, but people would do anything for a buck

  7. flammable says:

Yeah, you know me neither. Though I will say that I thought Dean Caine made an excellent Superman.

Lois and Clark was a great show, I really liked it when it was on.

  8. flammable says:

Wow. I never got to read the comics, but I remember the dog (with the cape) and the monkey belonged to the Wonder Twins.

It said on the Yahoo site that the Wonder Twins were actually created for the Superfriends, then were written into the comic. Figures.

Sadly, I just couldn’t bring myself to watching it anymore even if there are reruns on tv…which I don’t believe there are.

  10. socramforever says:

There were all of these super things during the many heights of superman. I never really read much of superman (except for The Death of Superman–but I was too young to care about it, so I really just collected the comics) but the super animals thing was before my time.

  11. flammable says:

Ohhhh I know what you mean. Superman had animals, if I remember correctly…but none of them were Superfriends animals.

I heard they were actually going to bring the Superdog back.

  12. socramforever says:

please do, that would be being bad!

oh god! don’t let them put the damn dog in the movie!

which reminds me, back in 1996, when they wanted to film it with Tim Burton directing Kevin Smith was actually writing a version of the script (yes THE Kevin Smith) and the producers wanted two things, #1 a giant spider for Superman to fight and #2 Lex Luthor to give Brainic a dog, who would be turned into like a mutated beast for superman to fight off later in the film.

The dog thing would have been terrible. In fact if anyone has ever seen The Hulk (FUCKING TERRIBLE MOVIE, I used to love the comic book, and this completely bastardized it)they had three HULK DOGS fighting with the Hulk. It was horrible. It made the movie more like a joke.

The second part with the spider, the same producer went on to make Wild Wild West, which if you have seen, has a giant mechanical spider in it. When someone gets it in their head to do something, come hell or high water, they are going to get it.

    OH FUCK!

They have broken through the bottom of the barrel and are now grabbing at the worms and maggots that have happened to live there un touched for years. Then they decided to eat the worms and maggots and shit them out, looked down and thought it was a good idea.

Is this a joke? Are they serious?

Hell has finally frozen over completely.

Wild Wild West was originally a TV series a couple of decades ago, perhaps during the 60’s or 70’s. You can probably ask your parents about it (I know I asked mine) and the movie was nothing like the TV show.

The movie in my opinion wasa huge waste of money and didn’t need to be a big special effects movie at all.

  15. socramforever says:

If Wild Wild West was a comic book I don’t remember. The original title for it while it was a show was The Wild Wild West. I honestly don’t know how there is a difference between “THE” and without it.
