Unaltered Star Wars DVD info

I’m in no way planning on buying these copies of the Star Wars DVDs, as far as I’m concerned they had their chance to give it to me last year and they didn’t, so I purchased the special editions on dvd.

Unaltered Original “Star Wars” On DVD

The Star Wars Official Site reports that in response to overwhelming demand, Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release attractively priced individual two-disc releases of “Star Wars”, “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”. Each release includes the 2004 digitally remastered special edition version of the movie, as well as the original theatrical edition of the film. That means you’ll be able to enjoy Star Wars as it first appeared in 1977, Empire in 1980, and Jedi in 1983.

See the title crawl to Star Wars before it was known as Episode IV; see the pioneering, if dated, motion control model work on the attack on the Death Star; groove to Lapti Nek or the Ewok Celebration song like you did when you were a kid; and yes, see Han Solo shoot first. This release will only be available for a limited time: from September 12th to December 31st. International release will follow on or about the same day. Each original theatrical version will feature Dolby 2.0 Surround sound, close-captioning, and subtitles in English, French and Spanish for their U.S. release. International sound and subtitling vary by territory.

“Over the years, a truly countless number of fans have told us that they would love to see and own the original version that they remember experiencing in theaters,” said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts and Senior Vice President of Lucasfilm Ltd. “We returned to the Lucasfilm Archives to search exhaustively for source material that could be presented on DVD. This is something that we’re very excited to be able to give to fans in response to their continuing enthusiasm for Star Wars. Topping it off with a new interactive adventure makes September 12 a red-letter day for Star Wars fans.”

Its cool, but I won’t be buying this, not necessary. But I’m sure they’ll make a killing off of this, just proving that you can repackage star wars for the next hundred years and somehow make some money off of it.

Yeah, that’s pretty sad…and the ONLY reason these will sell is simply because George Lucas didn’t fuck with them after the theater release.

I’m pretty happy with the fact that I didn’t buy the last ones (all 91364748 of them) and I won’t buy these. šŸ™‚

Lucas, do something new and maybe we’ll pay you some more.

People will buy them, there are already tons of people and a shit load of buzz on line about these things. He’ll make a mess of money and then put out the Special Editions on HD and then put these out on HD, and make even more money. And then he’ll bring out all six movies back into the theater in 3D like he said he was after the last one came out in the theater and he’ll make even more money and then that will be sold again on DVD (both the special editions and original editions). And not to be a pain in the ass, but here are some more predictions: he’ll make new editions, possibly Ultimate Editions…not to mention that Star Wars television series will probably be able to be put out on DVD…there is no end.

I actually own three copies of Star Wars. The Orignals on VHS, the Special Editions on VHS (If I had known then that eight years later I could buy them on DVD…no, that’s a bold face lie, I still would have bought them, that is just way too long to wait for Star Wars) and I bought the DVD package of the episodes IV-VI (along with I-III as they were coming out on DVD).

I don’t think I’m going to follow suite with the whole HD craze just yet. I don’t really see a difference. People are just buying it just to keep up with the joneses and I don’t make enough money just yet to play that game.

What do you think about HD…along with Star Wars?

Star Wars in HD sounds pretty cool.

My dad just bought an HDTV television, and I gotta admit it looks a lot better. Too bad the only channels that are in HD are all of the broadcast ones (PBS, ABC, NBC, etc.). If you look at HDTV through a crappy feed or a crappy TV (we saw many crappy HDTV’s while shopping for one), then you likely won’t be impressed.

I’m just not sure how high definition you can get with Star Wars, I mean, the originals are mostly plastic TIE fighters in front of a black background anyway. Plus, the cameras they used back then couldn’t record in HD.

I think to an extent, you’re right…when HD-DVD and Blu-Ray come out, that’s when I’m putting my foot down. Too many new formats at once (the RIAA pulls that stunt every few years, so you re-buy all of your stuff). Now the MPAA is doing it, too.

Also, by getting rid of analog signals and making it all digital, companies now have the ability to control what you do with your media, such as not allowing you to tape a TV show, or setting a limit for how long you can keep a TV show once you’ve recorded it. Google the words “broadcast flag” and see what that comes up with, the bill for that has been defeated many times and is still floating around in Congress somewhere. Hollywood really wants that.

So, I’m pretty torn between the fact that HD looks so damn good, and the fact that I like the freedom that comes with analog. Would be nice if digital TV and music didn’t give the companies this much control.

I guess its mostly because of the bootleggers and people that would probably use it for their own advantage that ruin it. I’m not saying people like you or me, I’m saying the people that do it for money and that make the entertainment industry feel as if they aren’t getting their fair share of the money. I mean if movie studios are still feeling hurt from last years drop in movie theater money then they will definatley start adding on the ristrictions on things.

You can’t even post just anything on youtube anymore…companies like WWE just doesn’t allow that. Forget about Disney, they’ll sue you into the next century if you dare touch one of their characters. People have a fear of loosing money to the little people and will go to great extents just to make some money.

Not that I agree with the companies that obviously make more money than I will probably ever make. I mean, lighten up, you’re still making money. But when you’re strapped for things, watch out, its like a caged animal…

I see your point, but the worst part is that companies like WWE, Disney, and the rest of Hollywood aren’t strapped for cash…they’re just greedy.

The movie studios are hurting for the very same reason the record companies are…they’re putting out shit, and nobody’s buying it.

I still blame Metallica…I mean, the world was all nice and happy, I was a freshmen in college when Napster bit the dust. Then came a whole slew of weird on-line downloading things like: audio galaxy (which by the way was aweseom, you had a little satellite thingy on your computer and you could walk away go to class and by the time you got back it was done downloading…it was freaking amazing) limewire, napigator, morpheous, something with a lady bug, and something that was a music or mp3 spy, I don’t remember. But whatever that last one was got stuck onto the computer (that was in my sophmore year of college).

Yeah, I may like Metallica, but I still blame them for this. They just couldn’t be happy. I actually bought most of their stuff and then quickly took most of it back….now I just download it from limewire…like a nice quick jab back at them.

  7. flammable says:

Metallica started a big trend…that has been continued over the years by many artists. At the time, Britney Spears also spoke out against downloading music. I just read an article that the Red Hot Chili Peppers are pissed their new album got leaked a week early and will hunt down whoever did it.

I remember Audio Galaxy, I liked that one…stay away from LimeWire, though. It’s just not safe. If you’ve got to use peer to peer, BitTorrent is the new one.

  8. flammable says:

Oh man, LimeWire sold out big time (from what I understand). They’re all legal now.

I have heard of a lot of people using LimeWire, though, so I dunno…

  9. socramforever says:

explains why I can never find the cash I think I have in my wallet…and all this time I thought it was the rabbit…those Limewire bastards!
