This one may seem like its coming completely out of left field but the thing is I haven’t had a chance to comment on the Underworld movies, seeing that I just saw them within the last two nights.
Like every other director that I don’t know that gets hired to do a movie, Len Wiseman is now signed to direct Die Hard 4 and I didn’t know what he was capable of. Now I wasn’t as crazy about the first Underworld movie, I needed action and it had action, but not as much as I would have wanted. The second one was amazing, it hit the spot. Kind of like the difference between the first X-men movie and the second. I can’t comment on the third I haven’t seen it and all I’ve heard were bad reviews. Despite the fact that it made massive cash over its initial weekend.
I bought Underworld on Tuesday after seeing that it was being advertised at Circuit City for 7.49. Circuit City has a tendency to put really great DVDs on sale for cheap, I’ve seen some very new DVDs on sale for not only 7.49, and 9.99, but also 6.99. I’ve been loving me some Circuit City recently. Anyway, we watched it and Melissa liked it enough to want to see the second one. If it was up to me, I would have just stopped at the first one (same thing happened with the Harry Potter movies, I hated the first one, but she liked it, and we went to see the second one and I loved the second one).
On Tuesday (6/6/06 remember?) Underworld: Evolution came out and I noticed that Circuit City had it on sale for 13.99, and I went out yesterday and bought it and we watched it last night. I was hooked. From start to finish some of the best action I’ve seen in a while. And now I think that Die Hard 4 or 4.0 is in great hands.
Anyway, woke up this morning (got yourself a gun?) and I read that there is talk about a third Underworld movie. Couldn’t be more perfect. Darkhorizons.com has the scoop:

Author: Garth FranklinLen Wiseman, producer/director/creator of the “Underworld” film series recently scored a lot of attention when it was announced he would be directing the next “Die Hard” film.
iF Magazine caught up with Wiseman while he was promoting the “Underworld: Evolution” DVD out this week and got the skinny on the next chapter in the “Underworld” film series:
“The third film is going to be a prequel. It will be the origin story and we find out things we didn’t know about Lucian; he’ll have a much bigger part in it. It will be about the creation [of the races] and what started the war. It will be a period piece…
In terms of the writing, a lot of the writing has been done. We’ve been developing UNDERWORLD 3 for a while. I won’t be directing UNDERWORLD 3; I’m just going to be producing and writing” says Wiseman.
Wiseman added that the film will be set in the time period before Kate Beckinsale’s Selene character, but it will overlap into the creation of her as well.
Sounds good, hopefully it’ll be good, but don’t just do a prequel, do a sequel too. There is more to the story, I know that! Keep going. Dammit! Don’t wait on this!

Wow, so Underworld is worth seeing?
It’s a shame, every time I see the title “Underworld” I think, “goddammit, they’re making a sequel to Waterworld? What’s wrong with these people?!”
Thankfully, nobody’s making a sequel to Waterworld. 😀
I always thought Waterworld would translate very well to a television show. Like a Baywatch of the post apocalypic future or something.
