This DVD came out today and I would love to pick it up within the next month or so. I have WWE’s “The Rise & Fall of ECW” and if WCW documentary is nearly as good as the ECW one then this will be a great DVD.
I got into WCW (as much as one could get into the WCW product) towards the very end, but I enjoyed what I saw. I mean, I ripped it when I saw crap and I praised it when I saw gold (like the cruiserweights in their only shinning moment, not like they were treated in WWE as lighter heavyweights, or the joke that the X-Division has become in TNA). And I’ve only seen bits and pieces of WCW on any WWE DVD. They had one, ONE!, ladder match on the Ladder Match dvd, and it was pretty entertaining. I don’t buy everything that the WWE puts out, but the things I have purchased usually, and rightfully so, sway towards the WWE product. But, I’d enjoy to see something that wasn’t produced by WWE every now and then. Its the same reason why I watch TNA from time to time. If the WWE product is a little stale, I don’t have that many other places to go for anything different. And, like most people think, I feel that not having the competition like they once did is truly hurting the product.
I can’t wait to see this DVD documentary, I’m disappointed that Eric Bishoff did not do any commentary on it. I did enjoy, and have a copy of “The Monday Night Wars” dvd that came out a couple of years ago, but thought that it was a good attempt at what could have been a great documentary. So, I’m putting my eggs in the Rise and Fall of WCW basket, hoping that it doesn’t disappoint.

I don’t remember watching the final match that they placed on the DVD, I don’t want to knock Lance Storm, he was and is a tremendous performer, but I’m shocked that they ended with a Nitro match with Booker T vs Lance Storm and not something more definitive. Maybe I need to watch the documentary and see if there is a reason why chose that one, or perhaps they just figured it was a good place to stop.

It will also be interesting to see who comments back at what is mentioned here. Judging by the commercials that were on during Raw they rip into the top three guys that are usually blamed for the fall of WCW (Eric Bichoff, Vince Russo and Kevin Nash). I’d be interested in hearing their point of views on this DVD.

PS is it just me or is the belt that Hogan is holding upside down?
