I don’t want to get too deep, but I can’t help to think the times we live in; technological times. Everyone and their mothers are very well connected, YET people seem to not be able to communicate with each other. Let me give you a few examples of what I mean. I used to work for a school program and we needed to keep our phones, blackebrries, sidekicks, whatever communications device we owned ON so that our supervisor could get in touch with us. Now this same guy (I have absolutely no respect for him, but that’s another rant) would NEVER respond to us when we needed him. He would get back to us, oh I don’t know, 3 or 4 days later with the information we needed that day. Or we would be out sick and wouldn’t hear from him till 7pm that evening. Good thing he wanted to keep tabs on all of us.
Another example; My parents and I have the lastest model in Blackeberries. It has pretty much everything you need in order to stay connected with the world. One time I texted my mother to let her know I fed the dog. The next day she tells me that she checked her messages after the fact that she fed the dog, again. So our little yorkie got 2 meals that day because my mother failed to check her messages. I ask you, was that even necessary?
Here we have the ability to email, text, send a BB message and make calls and yet we don’t even bother to check the device for any of these. What’s the point of even having it if we are not going to use it? I can understand shutting the phone or the computer off just to have some quiet time, I do that myself. But, people, why is it so hard to respond to even a text message? It doesn’t take that long to type a response out. Plus, by not responding you are pretty much telling the person who sent it to you, ‘ you are not worth my time.’ I guess what I’m saying is, you don’t have to respond the second you get the message, but out of courtesy send a reply.Â
