Ruthless Rountable: WWE Night of Champions predictions and thoughts

Ruthless Roundtable is a concept that I’ve been toying with for a while now where a group of contributors for the blog talk about their views and/or reviews on a subject. The one that I’ve been trying to get done for a while is an Inception review. I think I’m just waiting on myself for that one. While the individual participants in the Ruthless Roundtable may not always be the same (I may not even always be apart of it) there will always be one subject with multiple (three to four or five) opinions and views on the specific subject.

Anyway, here we have four different predictions for WWE’s upcoming pay-per-view (PPV) Night of Champions (and knowing who the four of us think, they probably all are very similar to each other). Night of Champions (NOC) will be taking place on Sunday, September 19th, 2010.

Cos’ Night of Champions predictions

Cos

This match involves: John Cena, Edge, Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, Wade Barrett and Sheamus (WWE Champion)
l
WWE has been building Orton up like he’s superman and I honestly have not been a huge fan of this. Not that I don’t like Orton, I’m just not a huge fan of his and feel as if giving him the Championship would cause the WWE Championship to take a step backward. Wasn’t it last year that Orton had the WWE Championship for about 75% of the year? I want to even say he had the belt at last years September pay-per-view (the failed) Breaking Point (funny how after they had a PPV with a submission based theme that they are now pushing for submission endings to matches…I bet you its because of the Mixed Martial Arts popularity that is going around. I for one am not a fan.) I think that they would be best to keep the Championship on Sheamus or give it to Wade Barrett.
l
Also, is it just me or has The Nexus completely fallen off the face of the Earth?
l
Winner and still Champion: Sheamus
i
l
l
I don’t know what I think about this match. I know that Smackdown is moving to SyFy and they probably need a hot feud to kick start the season on the new channel. But Kane vs Taker is not a hot feud anymore…maybe back in 98 or 99 or even in 2004, but here, in 2010? But seeing that the next PPV is Hell in a Cell I can see this feud pushing to that one, I don’t believe that there has ever been a Kane/Undertaker Hell in a Cell match (SHOCKINGLY!).
l
Winner and still Champion: Kane

l
This is the match I’ve mostly been looking forward to. I didn’t know much about Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) before he joined WWE’s NXT show, but I knew that he was an indy guy and we do sure love our indy guys. I’d much rather put everything into Daniel Bryan then some of the under trained stars that have been coming onto the main roster. Anyway, something tells me that this is too soon for a change, but I would really like the United States Championship taken off of The Miz to free Miz up to go for the Main Event.
l
Personally, I can’t believe I said that. A few years ago I couldn’t stand The Miz, now I’m holding him up as the next major breakout star in WWE. (shakes head)
l
Seeing that Daniel Bryan got the win over Alex Riley on Monday night and then made Miz tap, something tells me Miz won’t be made to look bad twice in a row…but I’m a betting man (and I lose a lot at that, which is why I don’t bet money when I bet) and I’m going to go out on a limb and say:
l
Winner and NEW United States Champion: Daniel Bryan
l
l
l
I don’t even care about this match. I don’t understand what has happened over the last decade to allow the Intercontinental Championship to become the European Championship…honestly. I know they bill it as one of the most prestigious championships in the WWE but that’s only because it once was. With names like The Rock, Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Bret Hart (I would add Ric Flair, but he didn’t win it back in the day, he won it a few years ago and against Carlito). Recently the championship has just been bounced around to mid-card guys that will never break through to the main event (not that I don’t want to see Kofi Kingston, John Morrison or Dolph Ziggler in the main event seen, I just don’t think that WWE wants them there or they would have been sky rocketed there like Sheamus).
l
Also, this match has been the IC match for the last month! I think I’ve seen it like eight times this past month and a half. I don’t care anymore. The has to be the last match in the series. I just don’t know where that leaves Kofi, but I doubt anyone would want to see Kofi Kingston vs Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship in a Hell in a Cell next month.
l
Winner and still Champion: Dolph Ziggler
l
l
l
The only match on the card that does not belong on the card. I know its a way to get Big show and Punk on the card, but this is called NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS! Not Night of Former Champions or Night of WWE Superstars Matches or anything else. I’m a huge fan of CM Punk (yet another indy guy I didn’t know too much about, but think the world of now–although I will say I’m not a fan of the tattoos that he’s placed on his chest, I think its a little too much)but I don’t think this match is necessary to place on this card.
l
I do think Punk needs a good win. I know that Big Show is the “fan favorite” and all but if they want Punk to look strong–ever–they need him to win big over The Big Show.
l
Winner: CM Punk
l
Also, I do feel that this match is the beginning of the end to the concept of Night of Champions…as long as all of the championships are being done at the event (even if they merge all of the titles) they can see beef up the card with bullshit matches like this.
l
l
http://wrestling.topbuzz.com/pictures/d/301-1/melina-wwe-apr29-8.jpg
l
Lay-Cool (Michelle McCool & Layla) (C) VS Melina
l
Another one that I don’t really care about. I completely get why they would do this, (you can view my opinion on the unification of the championships here: WWE to Unify All of it Championships?) but I just don’t care. Maybe if it was Trish Stratus or Lita or Mickie James or even Beth Phoenix; I could see this being a big deal. But I always questioned the necessity of a second Women’s championship? I felt as if they took away the Cruiser Weight Championship and renamed it the Diva’s Championship. But between the three participants I hope that it is Melina that prevails here because I wouldn’t want to see Lay-Cool on both shows…
l
Winner and Unified champion: Melina
l
l
Noticeably absent is the Tag Team Championship. I’m hoping that they do add this one, I had been hearing small rumors that it may be a Tag Team Turmoil Match from some podcasts…I can only assume that because of the recent arrest of Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, father of Hart Dynasty member Natalya and Hart family member; that we may not see them at the PPV as the WWE likes to keep thing on the low down when things are heated in the news. But I think it would really diminish the PPV if they weren’t there. I’m just saying…

Mother Brain’s WWE Night of Champions Predictions

https://cosblog.cosmelentertainment.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/motherbrain.jpg

By Mother Brain

As an old school wrestling fan, I was so used to the old days when there were only 5 WWE pay-per-views a year. But even after the Monday Night Wars ended, WWE proceeded to have PPV’s every month, even to the point where they would be 3 weeks apart. Not only is it expensive but it also creates less breathing room to build up rivalries.

What’s nice about this upcoming Night of Champions event is that the majority of these feuds have been building up since June. So I expect to see a few of them end while others continue on towards the year’s end. Unless the card changes, these are my predictions for Night of Champions this Sunday:

Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_74DOUg2qS3k/TFYvKI4UzaI/AAAAAAAADSM/Q5LGnqYqan0/s1600/IC+Champ+Dolph+Ziggler+(wwestalker.blogspot.com).jpg

They got screwed over from having a great match at Summerslam due to the Nexus attack last month. But if you’ve been watching Smackdown lately, these two are definitely stepping up big time. I expect a good 15-20 minute match with Kofi finally getting over without Vicki Gurrerro costing him the match again.

Winner and new IC champ: Kofi Kingston

The Big Show vs. CM Punk

Don’t really care for this one. SES is falling apart bit by bit. This may well be their last night together as a faction.

Winner: Big Show

U.S. Champion The Miz vs. Daniel Bryan

This is the match I’ve been waiting for since day 1 of NXT. We’ll see why Bryan is truly the best in the world and why the Miz will be the future of the company. But I don’t expect this feud to end that night as much as I want the belt off Miz. He’s ready for the main event.

Winner: The Miz

Co-Womens Champions LayCool vs. Divas Champion Melina (Title Unification Match)

Again, I could give a hairless rat’s ass about this match. Melina just returned and the women’s belt is not just a disgraceful prop. Melina gets the win and the unified title.

Winner and unified champion: Melina

World Heavyweight Champion Kane vs. The Undertaker

http://www.thfire.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Kane-and-Undertaker.jpg

Again? Oh but this time Taker’s vegetative state has affected his supernatural powers! Just another lame excuse to have these two rehash their 12 year old feud. This will continue into Survivor Series since Taker has no other competition on Smackdown.

Winner: Kane

Six-Pack Elimination Challenge for WWE Championship (Sheamus (c) vs. Wade Barrett vs. Edge vs. Randy Orton vs. John Cena vs. Chris Jericho)

This is living proof why I can’t stand WWE right now. The same 5 guys in the main event again. Honestly, I can’t see why Sheamus should be champ when he hasn’t gotten one clean win against anybody. Edge is on his was back to Smackdown and Orton will probably get the belt when his movie comes out sometime next year. Nexus is getting stale so I don’t see Barrett squeaking the win. So I’m going to be bold and say that Y2J will walk off as champion and swerve the rumors of his “retirement”, then feud with both Cena and Orton for a while.

Winner and new WWE champion: Chris Jericho

Looking back at this card now, there’s a whole bunch of young guys (John Morrison, Evan Bourne, etc) and others like Christian and MVP once again left off the card. There could be a few surprises in store (Miz cashing money in the bank). And when the hell will the anonymous Raw GM reveal himself?! (Or herself….)

Smark Central’s Night of Champion’s Predictions

https://cosblog.cosmelentertainment.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/smarkcentral.jpg

WWE Title 6 Pack Elimination Challenge

http://wrestlingrumorsandnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/chris-jericho-2.png

Randy Orton Vs John Cena Vs Edge Vs Chris Jericho Vs Wade Barrett Vs Sheamus (C)
What I want to See:  I would love to see Jericho get it and get a nice run w/it, but I really think Sheamus needs the win here.  In his two reigns as champion he doesn’t have one legit pin victory over another main eventer.  If they are really serious about this guy, he needs a big win to solidify his status as a main event player.
What will happen: Something tells me their gonna throw it on Barrett despite him not being close to ready (since when does that stop them?) because they need fresh main event talent.  Either this or Cena or Orton will win only so the Miz can cash in on them.

World Heavyweight Championship
Kane (C) Vs The Undertaker
What I want to see: Kane to retain
What will happen: Kane will retain because the feud has to continue.  Not even WWE is stupid enough to give us the payoff to the feud (Taker winning the title) after building it the whole summer.

U.S. Title
The Miz (C) Vs Daniel Bryan
What I want to see: I really enjoy watching Bryan.  He is definitely the kind of pure wrestler the WWE has been lacking since Benoit’s death and Angle’s departure.  I definitely think he should get the belt here because A.  He’s earned it.  The guy took the whole firing situation in stride and I think he could definitely anchor the mid-card which is in great need of guidance and B.  The Miz has surpassed the belt.  He is on the brink of being WWE champ and doesn’t need it anymore.
What will happen:  I supposed they could go the other way w/Miz Unifying the U.S. and WWE titles (thus leaving only the IC) and having him be the “first” guy to do it.  I can see it going either way, but I do know that we will see a really solid wrestling match w/two guys who can really perform.

Intercontinental Championship
Dolph Ziggler (C) Vs Kofi Kingston
What I want to see: Two other people fighting for this title.  Honestly, I think both of them are good wrestlers, but Ziggler’s push came a year too late (thank you Rey Mysterio) and Kingston just doesn’t do it for me.  He’s a smiley face who doesn’t have great mic skills and lacks charisma.  Hopefully Ziggler retains and gets put in a feud w/a face who can bring out the best in him (like Christian for example).
What will happen:  Ziggler retains.  Kofi doesn’t seem to get enough of a reaction to get another run right now.

Lumberjill Match for the Unified Women’s Championship
Melina (Divas Champion) Vs Michelle McCool (Co-Woman’s champion)
Instead of a prediction, I’m going to list all the reasons I couldn’t give two shits who wins this match:
1.  They have no interest in developing characters or feuds thus creating a complete lack of interest in the division
2.  No women’s match in the last 3 years has lasted more than 7 mins
3.  The Divas title looks like something that came out of Barbie’s ass
4.  I have no doubt Michelle will win and thats only because she’s the only person to suck the Undertaker’s cock more than Teddy Long (“its true Playa”)
5.  When they do wrestle, even the good women’s wrestlers botch at least 3 times.
6.  Its a 3 hour show, everyone needs a bathroom break

Big Show Vs CM Punk

What I want to see: Punk involved in a good feud where he actually goes over.
What will happen: Punk will continue to be completely mis-used and made to job to this no-talent piece of monkey crap once again.
Another little side note on this one – I love how the WWE no longer has enough titles to fill up this show.  I wouldn’t be shocked if this is the last NOC PPV ever whether they unify all the belts or not.

Unified Tag Team Championship
The Hart Dynasty Vs TBD
What I want to See: WWE actually care about the tag division instead of slapping together a unpromoted match at the last second.
What will happen:  The Harts will retain against whoever they face because they are one of the only two legit teams in the company.
