I saw this on joblo.com last week and I got really excited.
I remember when the first one came out, that was still during my Super Nintendo and Nintendo Power days, it was back in 1994 (yeah, way back then) and I received this odd package in the mail. Nintendo Power was sending out these making of videos for Donkey Kong Country, it was in a dark green leafy looking box. I wasn’t expecting it and I didn’t even want to buy it. Why would I want to have anything to do with Donkey Kong? I didn’t really like or appreciate the old video game. But my parent’s told me to at least check it out.
After viewing the video, which was short, I freaking loved the game. I wanted it right then and there. I just did a quick search for it on youtube (because if it has ever been made, its probably in some form on youtube). While I don’t, honestly, remember what the video was like, I’ll post it below and see if anyone else received it or remembers it.
I loved the first game, I played it over and over, it was great. It was perfect. Then they came out with Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest and it wasn’t a bad game, it was just unnervingly hard and unnecessarily long. I also didn’t like the fact that you didn’t play as Donkey but the little sidekick from the first game. I never played Donkey Kong Country 3 and couldn’t even tell you the name of it. I think by that point I had grown out of video games.
Anyway, last week I saw that joblo had posted something about a new Donkey Kong Country game (Donkey Kong Country Returns) which is set for release on November 21st, 2010 for the Wii. And looking at the trailer and the screen caps of it it looks like it is another platform game. Let me tell you how happy I am that video game companies are starting to see how profitable it is to put platform games out.
I’ve been saying it for a while, and I’m saying it for this one, Christmas List 2010!

Games – Donkey Kong Country Returns
September 23, 2010
November 21, 2010. Remember the date because that’s when the stellar looking DONKEY KONG COUNTRY RETURNS will be released for the Nintendo Wii. With KIRBY’S EPIC YARN also on the way, I’m glad to see Nintendo staying true to its amazing side-scrolling roots.
The game’s physics look absolutely bananas. Check out the trailer below to see some gameplay footage of DK and his buddy Rambi the Rhino:
Official Synopsis: Controlled by a group of mischievous Tikis, the animals in Donkey Kong Island have raided Donkey Kong‘s Banana Hoard and stolen his stash of bananas – and he understandably wants them back. Retro Studios brings Donkey Kongâ„¢ back in a new side-scrolling adventure with familiar characters and new levels that reignite the passion players had for the Super NESâ„¢ original.
Retro Studios faithfully restores everything that made the original series great, from barrel cannons to mine carts, and then builds on those elements with stunning graphics and new layers of depth to the world and game play. The game offers the traditional side-scrolling experience everyone loved, but with levels created in fully rendered 3-D environments.
For the first time ever, the franchise features the ability for two people to play together at the same time – one as Donkey Kong, one as Diddy Kong. Players can navigate the levels separately or as one unit. Diddy Kong can ride on Donkey Kong’s back and hop off whenever he pleases, allowing novice players to ride on Donkey Kong’s back through more challenging areas of the game.
