With the birth of our son and my mother-in-law staying over while we get acclimated to having a baby, we needed to start watching something that no one had seen before. This would alleviate any need for explanation, or re-watching anything. And I don’t care what anyone says, if you’ve been forced to watch ‘Devious Maids’ I feel sorry for you…
Anyway, chalk this as a better late than never as we decided to watch the Netflix original series starring Kevin Spacey ‘House of Cards’. To be honest, I have been dying to watch ‘House of Cards’ since the beginning, it was Melissa who had been holding us back on that front from excuses like “not really in the mood”, “I don’t like political shows” (despite the fact that we watch shows like ‘Homeland’, ‘Scandal’ or even ‘The Black List’ while not all truly political still delve into that genre a bit) or “I don’t like that guy” (meaning Kevin Spacey). Now, we are a season deep into this series and we are not looking back.
Season 1 not only starred Spacey but had a slew of other stand out actors from Robin Wright, Kate Mara, Michael Kelly, Corey Stoll and Kristen Connolly with so many twists and turns you’ll really need to pay attention just to make sure you get scheming from Spacey’s political chess master Congressman Frank Underwood. When Underwood doesn’t get his way at the beginning of the season, the rest of his efforts throughout the remaining season has him plotting how he will get back with a ton of roadblocks and detours along the way.
This season was the epitome of a binge worthy show. We couldn’t wait until we turned it on again the next day. While normally Melissa and I could plow through a bunch of episodes in one night, with Miles (our son) here we were lucky if we got through one episode. If this were a book this would definitely have been a page turner.
Knowing that there are 2 more season already on Netflix and a 4th on the way I know we have many of hours to enjoy watching this series.
If you get a chance to watch, let me know what you think!
