Mortal Kombat: Rebirth?

Mortal Kombat is one of my favorite video games of all time. I love the series. I especially love how they’ve created this huge world and how each character has become such dynamic of characters. They have histories and back stories  and they are real.

I did hear a few months back that they were possibly working on a new series for Mortal Kombat. This is also coming off of the fact that Midway went bankrupt and is possibly selling (or have sold) the Mortal Kombat rights to another company (I can only hope for Capcom to buy the rights so that we can finally get the MK vs Street Fighter that many of us have always wanted). We’ve all been hearing about either a third movie or another restart  of the series for a long time, so I didn’t think too much about it.

That was until today, and this “concept trailer” looks a little too real to not get people thinking. Check it out and let me know what you think.

“Mortal Kombat” Reel Garners Buzz

"Mortal Kombat" Reel Garners BuzzA viral video has hit today that’s spreading like wildfire because it plays like a trailer for Warner Bros. upcoming reboot of the “Mortal Kombat” franchise.

This professionally made clip starring Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan also includes multiple decapitations, cannibalism, mutated people and a much darker and grittier sense to it than the previous two fantasy/action films based on the video game.

As for its origins? The clip first emerged on YouTube under the name ‘MortalKombatRebirth’ and is apparently a proof-of-concept reel that film director Kevin Tancharoen (“Fame”) put together with the help of fight sequence co-ordinator Larnell Stovall (“Undisputed III”).
