OUT THIS WEEK (in Theaters)

Weekend of: September 9th–11th, 2011

An interesting collection of movies out this week. I usually would say that by this time in the month the list of movies that are coming out tend to be very uninspired, as the case is with Bucky Larson. I mean, Bucky Larson comes from the same people as Grandma’s Boy, which I gave glowing reviews to just a few weeks ago (Retro Review: Grandma’s Boy)so maybe this is just a case of bad advertising…but I somehow don’t think so.

Contagion looks fantastic. Might try to check that out. Don’t really know too much about Warrior.

Let me know what you decided to see yourself, leave comments or reviews!

Contagion

The world tries to find a cure to a global epidemic that is wiping everyone out. Probably one of the biggest casts I’ve seen all year (Matt Damon, Marion Cotillard, Gwyneth Paltrow, Bryan Cranston, Kate Winslet, Jude Law, Laurence Fishburne, and Jennifer Ehle) and directed by Steven Soderbergh (Erin Brockovich, Ocean’s Eleven, Ocean’s Twelve, Ocean’s Thirteen, Traffic, Che, The Informant!) this movie probably has the best going for it this weekend.

Bucky Larson: Born to be a Star

Upon finding out that his parents were once porn stars, local small town guy decides to move to Hollywood to obtain his destiny. Starring Nick Swardson (Just Go With It and Grandma’s Boy) along with Christina Ricci, Don Johnson, Stephen Dorff and Ido Mosseri; this movie is directed by Tom Brady (no not the football player, the film director of such movies as The Hot Chick and The Comebacks). I don’t know about this movie, I’d stay away from this one and if you’re really interested check it out on DVD.

Warrior

Two brothers must fight themselves, not in a boxing match but in an MMA fight. I honestly haven’t payed too much attention to the commercials for this movie and I was actually shocked to find out it was an MMA movie. What a great concept. As MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) has continued to gain popularity not only here in the US but around the world, it is overtaken the Pay Per View world by storm and has been doing fantastic. I probably won’t go see this movie in the theater but I’ll definetly look for it once it comes out on DVD. I noticed that Olympic Gold Medalist, former WWE Superstar and current Impact Wrestling star Kurt Angle seems to have a prominent role in this Tom Hardy (Inception and The Dark Knight Rises) starer. I’m glad to see Hardy is keeping busy, I thought he did great in Inception and should do fantastic as Bane in the upcoming Dark Knight Rises.
