OUT THIS WEEK (in Theaters)

Weekend of: September 30th–October 2nd, 2011

The end of September brings us into October and with that we get closer to Halloween and the season of horror is upon us with “Dream House” which boasts a big cast, but can it boast big grosses just based on whose face is in the commercials? Also, two comedies with the Seth Rogen cancer comedy (did I just say that in the same sentence?) “50/50” and the Anna Faris chick comedy “What’s Your Number?”

This is the first October without a Saw film in seven years, let’s see how the horror gets packed into this month as we are now are knee deep into the fall season and on our way towards the promise land of November, known best as the award season of films.

Here we go!

50/50

Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Seth Rogen, Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Anjelica Huston.

Director: Jonathan Levine

This is actually a dramedy and not just a straight comedy, that was inspired about a true story about a 27-year old who has a great life who finds out he has a rare form of cancer and how he and his life deal with it. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Inception, (500)Days of Summer, and the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises) plays the guy who has cancer as Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, Funny People, Green Hornet) plays his friend.

Dream House

Starring: Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, and Rachel Fox.

Directed by: Jim Sheridan

This one is a horror movie about a man who movies his family out of the city and into a rural town into their Dream House (hence the name!) only to find out that the previous family was murdered and it was blamed on the husband who survived. Now, the premise seems straight forward, but the trailer probably gives away a little more than I would have liked. If you ask me, (SPOILER HERE) it reminds me of how Jim Carrey’s The Number 23 turned out.

My opinion, don’t watch the trailer, but I’ll put it up for the sake of keeping with the format:

What’s Your Number?

Starring: Anna Faris, Chris Evans, Ari Graynor, Blythe Danner, and Ed Begley Jr.

Directed by: Mark Mylod

Anna Faris stars in this chick comedy about a girl who searches through her long list of ex-boyfriends after reading that those women who have more then 20 boyfriends have lost out on their chance at true love.
