2006 Oscar Nominations

Like the last few years, I have no real interest in watching this show. Not because I don’t care but because it just doesn’t peak my interest. I’ll enjoy reading the winners, but other than that, I don’t really care. But to those of you who do, here are the nominations:

Well the time has come again and this morning the 78th Annual Academy Award nominations for the March 5th ceremony have been announced with some mild surprises. “Brokeback Mountain” led the pack with eight Oscar nominations, ahead of nearest rivals “Crash”, “Good Night and Good Luck” and oddly enough “Memoirs of a Geisha” with six each. “Munich” which has been snubbed by many other awards shows scored an impressive five noms, the same as acclaimed “Capote”. “Walk the Line” missed out on best film.

The interesting category funnily enough this year might just be best picture as there is still a chance of something stealing the crown from current (and my personal) favourite “Brokeback Mountain”. The other key awards, including acting and directing, seem already set to wind up in the hands of Philip Seymour Hoffman, Reese Witherspoon, Rachel Weisz, Ang Lee, and the scripts for ‘Brokeback’ and ‘Crash’. Whilst there’s always room for surprises (eg. Ledger, Huffman, etc.), some of these will come as a shock if they don’t go to the aforementioned names.

Oh gimme a break, I think I should be ashamed more than you. 😛

Then again, you’re the film guy…that might blur things a little bit.

Melissa’s parents and my parents (separetely) saw Wedding Crashers and War of the Worlds, and we didn’t…my parents see a lot of movies, but when they run out of movies to go see and watch Wedding Crashers then you know that they’ve seen too many movies. But when Melissa’s parents go to see a movie, you know hell has frozen over…
