Rumble in Review

Cos

Let me first say that I was really entertained by the WWE’s Royal Rumble this year. I don’t know if it is because it’s my favorite event of the year with the best gimmick of any pay per view. I posted my predictions (along with other blog contributors: Mother Brain, Smark Central, Chosen 1 and Justice) on Friday and you can view them at this link: Ruthless Roundtable: WWE Royal Rumble 2011 Predictions. And I have to say this is the best I’ve done on any PPV predictions ever, except for one match and that was because they threw a curve ball in last minute, but still, I would have gotten that wrong.

I’ll just briefly go through the matches and show my predictions with the winner.

Natalya (c) vs. LayCool (Layla and Michelle McCool)  Diva’s Championship

2-on-1 Handicap match for the WWE Divas Championship

Prediction: LayCool

I had picked LayCool winning this but the freaking Anonymous Raw General Manager turned the match from a 2-on-1 Handicap match into a Fatal Four match and added…not Beth Phoenix, who we all thought it was going to be, but RANDOM, Eve Torres?

Yeah, that’s right.

To be fair, I guess if he is the RAW General Manager, Anonymous or not, he should pick a Raw Diva not a Smackdown one (like Phoenix) to be in the match.

Winner: Eve Torres?

And yes, I added the “?” at the end because I’m confused why they would do that. But I guess we shall see tonight…

0 – 1

Edge (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler World Heavyweight Championship

Singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship

Edge vs Ziggler was the opening match and it was a lot slower than I expected it to be, but it was OK, I expect a lot more from these two in the next few weeks to months.

Prediction: Edge retains

And, as predicted…

Winner: Edge

Whoo!

1 – 1

The Miz (c) vs. Randy Orton WWE Championship

Singles match for the WWE Championship

Miz vs Orton had some unexpected turns in it with the New Nexus coming out and ruining Orton’s chances of regaining the WWE Championship. Namely CM Punk sticking his nose in the match, which leads me to believe that it’ll be Orton vs Punk in the coming weeks. That’s fine by me.

Prediction: Miz retains

And again as predicted.

Winner: The Miz

Yes! 2-1

40-man Royal Rumble match

Winner receives a championship match at WrestleMania XXVII

And finally the Royal Rumble…my one complaint is that the majority of them match was spent with either Nexus or John Cena and Hornswaggle kicking one entrant out at a time…but other then that, I think the surprise entrants like Booker T…

…and Diese…

https://i0.wp.com/img684.imageshack.us/img684/7610/nashh.jpg?resize=464%2C287

…I hope they stick around in WWE for a while. It was good seeing them on a bigger stage than TNA and I’m sure they are much happier being in the WWE.

And the winner being who I predicted…

Prediction: Alberto del Rio

https://i0.wp.com/img194.imageshack.us/img194/9341/delrio.jpg?w=490

Winner: Alberto del Rio

Ohh yeah! 3-1

Much better than SummerSlam and Survivor Series. I hope WrestleMania is good!

I’ve actually only seen a few live Rumbles, the 2001, 2004, 2006, 2008 (which I was at live at  Madison Square Garden), and this years. And out of all of them I still find the 2004 the best one, it told a great story, and the winner, at least at the time, was the best man for it. Too bad that {NAME DELETED} did what he did afterward and should never get the recognition that he would have. But that’s just my opinion

How does everyone feel?
